Ladies With Books

Ladies With Books met for our August get-together at Janice's and discussed Adriana Trigiani's book Big Stone Gap. We all liked the book and decided we all wanted to read the sequel, Return to Big Stone Gap so we'll read that for one of our next Book Club selections. Trigiani does a great job in character development - the same kind of work I see in Jan Karon's books. Her descriptions are wonderful too - you can place yourself in the "holler" and see the community life develop all around you. I liked her characters and her story. If you want an easy, warm read - get this book. Dayle has our next choice and it's Loving Frank.

We also had our bookclub this week! It is called Eleanor's Reading Circle and our group of merry bookworms have been going for nine years. The book making a stir in our little circle at the moment is The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. A WWII story with a difference. We also meet once a month at a different member's home. We pay a monthly membership fee which is used to buy three different books per month chosen by three different ladies in turn from a selection of books taken on appro from our local bookstore. I usually chair the meeting which is very informal and my greatest job is trying to get everyone to settle down and listen! Once we get chatting, we never seem to stop! Sounds like you girls have fun too. Love Eleanor
